Review
From time to time, a videogame company releases one product, and this one becomes popular. In fact, it becomes so popular to make a movie, and even a couple of them. Some examples: Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter, both fighting games. But recently, a new game genre appeared, presenting a plot interesting enough to make a movie: the survival horror games. In such games, the player must fight against enemies (mostly zombies or paranormal creatures), solving puzzles and more.
Today, there are two major video games that fit this category: Silent Hill (Konami) and the subject of this review...RESIDENT EVIL (Capcom).
Six years have passed since the virus incident wiped out Racoon City from the map. The nasty experiments made by Umbrella Corporation were discovered, the US government stopped its operations, and after a while the company bankrupted.
Meanwhile, Leon S. Kennedy (one of the main characters in the saga) was trained by a special US Government Agency, and now he has a mission to accomplish somewhere in Europe: the president's daughter, Ashley Graham, was kidnapped by an ancient cult called "Los Iluminados" (The Illuminated Ones), so he must rescue her.
The main changes from previous versions of the saga are:
- Enemies are not mindless zombies, they seem like normal people. They can talk, run, dodge attacks, throw grenades and communicate with each other. Watch out!
- The camera view is not "static" or "fixed-per-screen": it remains with the character, behind his right shoulder, bringing more realism to the game.
- In some situations the player can interact with the environment: jumping through windows, kicking down/bringing up ladders and dodging attacks.
There are so many other things to say about this game...I just can say this: If you like the genre, give it a try. You will not regret it for sure. |
- Graphics, Dolby ProLogic II sound, great gameplay...a MUST HAVE for the fans of the RE saga!

- Hardware requirements are quite high, but it's really worthwhile.
